HAPPY NEW YEAR: Tips For Attaining Your Goals In 2011


Happy New Year from The Vintage Rush! 2011 will be YOUR year, everyone.  Here are some things to remember the next time you think that your dreams are too big to be conquered.  (Because this is the year that you will accomplish them, so naturally, you better start looking for new bigger & better dreams.)

Anything can happen, with a positive mindset.  It seems silly, but give it a whirl on a day that everything just seems to be going wrong.  It works.  If you apply it to your whole life, imagine what can happen. 

Walk with more confidence than you know what to do with.  You'll find a use for it somewhere.  It's better for a woman (or a guy) to have too much confidence than too little.  Simply said, we all are amazing individuals: let's celebrate it.  Wear heels taller than you think that you can walk in (just carry some Dr. Scholl's Fast Flats in your bag for when you start to fall.)

Never for a second believe (or let anyone else trick you into thinking) that you can't aspire to be anything you want to be.  As I always say, dream bigger than you think you want, because why not? You're bound to get it. 

Never give in to negative emotions.  They can creep up on you like a derranged stalker, but you simply do not have time for them! They take away from your inner-drive, the thing that will fuel you to accomplish anything.  When you start to feel negative, do something! Go to the gym, turn on an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, polish your nails, paint a beautiful picture, prepare a meal, anything! You'll be distracted for a little bit, but then you'll get back on track.  Even if you are just distracted by Kourt Kardash's leopard heels, it's much better than feeling sorry for yourself.  Remember, feeling sorry for yourself is so last season

Never pass up an opportunity.  Everything happens for a reason and even the times you fail miserably (like, say, falling on your face and breaking your ankle at an event) you are still in progress.  You are still bumping into contacts that can turn into someone who can change your life one day and you are still working towards your dream!  Never keep up, always keep going and always rush! Rush to get your dreams accomplished. 

Always accept help from others, but never be naive.  It is very rare that you can have a free ride to anything.  Some of the best advice that I've ever recieved is that it will take A LOT out of you to get what you truly want.  If it's not, you're probably not working too hard.  A work ethic is one of the most important things to have in your back pocket.  Never lose it and always, always work as hard as you can.  If you make a mistake, work as hard as you can to fix it!  No half-ass attempts. 

Finally, always be yourself.  Always be vintage.  Things that are mass-produced are easy to find, but vintage, vintage is hard to find.  The vintage Chanel gown, for instance, never goes out of style and is cherished.  It is recognized as something that is hard to find; a gem. Gems are hard to find, so when you find it, cherish it.  And if you are a gem, a lot of people will try to copy off of you and mass-produce imitations of what you've done/who you are.  Stay you.  Love yourself, love others.  If you can't see how special you are, no one else will be able to either.

Faded Industry Entertainment's "End of the World" Event at Villa

A few weeks ago, I featured Frank Bachurski of Faded Industry Entertainment here on The Vintage Rush.  A few nights ago, I went to a Faded Industry Event at Villa, an "End of the World" themed art show & party.  If I could describe this event, I'd say that it was a collision of Art and the nightlife scene in Pittsburgh.  I've been to a lot of art shows in my day, but the "End of the World" event was one worth remembering.  A collection (and contest) of photography and artwork, all of the artists and photographers from Pittsburgh who entered were to come up with a piece themed with the oh-so intriguing topic of "the End of the World".  Why are humans obsessed with this topic? One of life's grand questions. All of the submitted entries were blown up into posters that lined the walls of Villa for the evening.  They were available to be purchased and just admired. 

The event took place at Villa in the South Side on the 29th. Personally, even though Jordan Beckham was the runner up at this event, his piece stood out for me the most.  All of the art was impressive, though.  Enjoy some photos from throughout the night.  This is a prime example of the type of event Faded Industry Entertainment does here in Pittsburgh.  The event was sponsored by Clique Vodka. Artists featured included: Radikal Kats Photography, Jordan Beckham, Tom Larkin, Joel Kamensky, Frank Bachurski, Branden McFadden, Miss dig, PANGAEBYLENA Photography, and many others.  All guests were given custom dog tags at the door.  Ultimately, it was a great event and I encourage all of you to check out more from Faded Industry Entertainment.

Cindy Hines: Foundation ... it helps even out the skin tone.

The Vintage Rush: Can you let us in on a secret that everyday girl-on-the-go's can incorporate into their makeup regime? Cindy Hines: Three things a girl should have with her at all times...mascara, blush, and lip gloss

The Vintage Rush: How do you get inspired?
Cindy Hines: Magazines, other makeup art, etc. I get inspired by both. When I look at a magazine, I examine the makeup ads, the hair ads and even celebrity photos to see how the makeup and hair are done. I am inspired by so many all over the world, but right now I am obsessed with work from the U.K.

The Vintage Rush: What inspired you to get into the business? 
Cindy Hines: It was really pure coincidence. I started modeling for fun and I had mentioned to Mark Brosius, the photographer, that I had gone to Cosmetology school. He asked if I ever thought about doing hair or possibly makeup for photo shoots. After thinking about it, I took a chance and Mark helped me get my portfolio started. I would have never thought about doing what I am doing if he hadn't asked that question. He has played a major role on my journey and I am truly thankful. Things just took off from there and I started working with other photographers and models in the Pittsburgh area.

The Vintage Rush: Since models are your canvas, what is one of the best/most tough aspect of working with them?
Cindy Hines: Best: That they trust me enough to say, "Do whatever type of makeup that you want." Toughest: Everyone had different skin types and some have allergies. Not knowing what kind of skin I will be dealing with is difficult until I actually see them in person. I haven't had to deal with an allergic reactions thus far (knock on wood).

The Vintage Rush: Favorite magazine?
Cindy Hines: I know this is cliche for most women, but Cosmopoliltan and VOGUE.

The Vintage Rush: Biggest achievement of your career?
Cindy Hines: Aside from being proud of myself and the portfoilio that I have built, I would have to say that the biggest achievement is the people that I have met and have had the chance to work with. I wouldn't be here without them and I wouldn't be able to continue this journey without them.

The Vintage Rush: What are your goals as a makeup artist & where do you see yourself in ten years?
Cindy Hines: My goal is to be happy and do what I love to do. I don't want to sit at a desk for 8 hours. I want to express my creativity and explore the makeup world.

The Vintage Rush: Favorite snack: sweet or salty?
Cindy Hines: Since I love food, I cannot choose one or the other. I would say chocolate covered pretzels since they have the best of both worlds.

The Vintage Rush: What cannot leave the house without?
Cindy Hines: Philosophy Birthday Cake Lip Gloss.

The Vintage Rush: Biggest indulgence?
Cindy Hines: Clothes, shoes and makeup.

The Vintage Rush: What were some of the speedbumps for you while getting established as a makeup artist? (trials and tribulations)
Cindy Hines: I had a hard time gaining confidence in myself. This industry will eat you alive if you let it. I try and stay focused on the prize and keep truckin' along. I also have a great support system.

The Vintage Rush: Best day as a makeup artist? Why?
Cindy Hines: My best day as a makeup artist would have to be the day I did makeup for a photo shoot with the local band, Through These Walls. The shoot took place at an abandoned motel on a hot day during the summer. The models were nervous about falling through a rotted stage and I had a sensitive band member with watery eyes, he knows who he is, because it was his first time wearing eyeliner. It was a fun experience and I am glad that I was involved. Not only did I work with Chris Gooden, who is an amazing photographer, Jason Zarelli, who is an awesome hairstylist, and a fabulous group of people, but it was a start to some of my closest friendships. I would say that was my best day as a makeup artist and the pictures turned out amazing!
The Vintage Rush: Inspiring words for someone who needs it?
Cindy Hines: Follow your dreams. Never let anyone tell you that you can't do something or that you're not good enough. Only you can decide what you are capable of...and that's anything!!

The Vintage Rush: Words to live by?
Cindy Hines: One word: Believe

"Get the Look"
I asked Cindy to create a look on Mariyah that the everyday Girl on the Go can use.  This is a step by step tutorial on how to go glam girl for the night.  Additionally, before adding the smokey eyes and dramatic false eye lashes, this look is great for the day.  You can wear it to a casual lunch, a business dinner.  Your face is the very first thing people see when they meet you, so it's always nice to have a fresh face.


{Eye shadow: Pick the colors that work best with your eyes and skin tone. Matching your eye color or using colors that contrast can really make your eye color stand out. Prime your eyelid with a shadow base or primer. This will help keep your eyeshadow in place for hours. Use an applicator wand to dab a small dot on to your eyelid and then spread it over entire eyelid with your finger. Apply your base (or lightest) color by sweeping your shadow brush across the entire eyelid. Cover from brow to lash line. Use the medium shadow to cover your lower lids. Highlight the crease of your eyelid with the darkest shadow. Start at outer corner of the eye above the lash line and follow crease. Use on the lower lash line along the outer corner of the eye to create a V shape. Make your eyes appear larger by applying a shimmery eyeshadow directly under the brow bone. Place a dot of white eyeshadow or eye pencil on the inside corner of your eye (right by the tear duct) to make your eyes look brighter. For different looks, try different application techniques and a variety of colors, and practice applying your eyeshadow until you get the look you want. Now you will apply the eyeliner. Start at the inside corner of your eye lid. Apply the eyeliner straight across the bottom of your eye lid as close as you can get to your eye lashes. Put a little bit of eyeliner in the outside corner or your eye and continue to line directly under your bottom eye lashes. Now that your eye is completely lined, you will want to smudge the eyeliner a little so that it doesn't look very harsh. }

{Mascara: Select a color. Apply all other eye makeup prior to your mascara. Begin with the underside of your upper lashes, moving the brush slowly upward toward the tips of your lashes. Always hold the wand parallel to your eyelid. Roll the brush slowly on the upward stroke to promote separation of the lashes. Allow the first coat of mascara to dry before applying the second coat in the same manner. Also blot the lashes with tissue paper if necessary to remove excess mascara. Use less mascara for the lower lashes. Begin where the lashes meet the rim of the lower eyelid, and gently stroke downward. Remove any stray mascara around the eye with a cotton swab dipped in a small amount of eye makeup remover.}


{Eyebrows: For eyebrow color, use eyebrow pencil or eyeshadow. If you are darkening your brows, this is one of the easiest ways to color them to match your hair. Select a color similar to your hair color. Eye shadow comes in a wider variety of colors and it's easier to match the color of your hair. Use a powdered shadow and a slanted brush to brush the color into your brows. }

{Blush: Lastly, add your blush and use desired cheek color. Select a color of blush that resembles the natural glow of your cheeks. Consider having a lighter color for day, and a darker tone for a more dramatic evening look. Complete the application of foundation, powder and all eye makeup before applying blush. Use a full, round brush for the application of your powder blush, as it will make for a softer and more professional look than the brush that comes with the blush. This should not be the same brush you use to apply your loose powder. Place powder blush on the apple of your cheek and gently brush up your cheekbone toward your hairline. For high cheekbones, concentrate blush in the center of your face to accentuate your bones. Blend a little blush down your cheek for a little more natural, less dramatic look.}
{Fake eyelashes can be applied for a more dramatic look.}

{Lips: Line the lips with a liner that coordinates with your choice of lip color. After the lips are lined, add your lip color. For an extra shimmer, add some lipgloss.}
{Smokey Eyes: For smokey eyes, choose whether you are going to use black eye shadow or dark brown. Whichever one you choose you will choose the same color eye liner. Next decide whether you will use cream or white colored eye shadow for the second color. Once you choose your color palette, you will begin with the dark colored eye shadow. With the applicator apply the dark eye shadow to the lower portion of your eye lid. Start at the inside corner of your eye, cover the entire bottom of your lid, and continue up to just above the crease of your eye lid. Next you are going to apply the light colored eye shadow. You will start at the crease of your eye lid and apply up to your brow line. Starting at the crease should overlap the dark colored eyeshadow a little bit allowing you to blend the colors together. You'll want to make sure that the light and dark colors are blended so that it appears a seamless transition from dark to light. This helps create the smokey eye effect. Now you will apply the eyeliner. Start at the inside corner of your eye lid. Apply the eyeliner straight across the bottom of your eye lid as close as you can get to your eye lashes. Put a little bit of eyeliner in the outside corner or your eye and continue to line directly under your bottom eye lashes. Now that your eye is completely lined, you will want to smudge the eyeliner a little so that it doesn't look very harsh. Remove any eyeliner that may have ended up too far away from your eye lashes. This creates a more dramatic look for special occasions or a night out on the town. }

Love the color pink? So does Buff Monster.

Los Angeles artist Buff Monster loves heavy metal music, Japanese music, ice cream & the color pink.  It isn't hard to tell either since you can see all of these four things in his artwork.  The color pink is in every single piece of Art he creates because it "is a symbol of confidence, idividuality and happiness."  Once a street artist, he now is a well respected artist who works on two-dimensional fine art pieces, large installations and toys.

OBEY Clothing
Obey Eye

Shepard Fairey is one of the biggest names in the art world.  His stickers are plastered all over every city in the US (even here in Pittsburgh).  His posters are plastered to the sides of buildings in every city (think, the Bee Hive).  Obama's famous ad campaign poster? Done by Shepard Fairey.  OBEY Clothing was launched in 2001 when Fairy realized he could spread his message through clothing.  A lot of his work has been known to channel world events and political leaders and it shows in this clothing line.

Holiday Shopping: Nicki Minaj teams up with MAC Cosmetics to create Pink 4 Friday Lipstick

This lipstick was released on Black Friday and was only available for following four consecutive Friday's.  Yesterday was the last day to purchase this custom shade lipstick online. MAC released this candy pink (channeling Barbie-pink) shade to promote the release of "Pink Friday", Minaj's debut album.  I'm a total fan of everything MAC and when they team up with designers/celebs, I go a little gaga.  I have Gaga's shade in my make-up bag, did anyone manage to purchase Nicki's Pink 4 Friday?

Get to Know: Frank Bachurski

A few weeks ago, we met Noah Cohen.  As you remember, Cohen insisted that the success of Premier Innovations and Clique Vodka was due to a very powerful team.  Prior to launching Clique Vodka, Premier merged with Faded Industry Entertainment.  Now, we have the opportunity to get to know the man who founded Faded Industry, Frank Bachurski

 The Vintage Rush: What demographic do you target? 
Frank Bachurski:  We reach anyone from a high school demographic when promoting live concerts and all ages events, to the night club social scene when promoting nightclub and bar events, to young professionals and artists when hosting events at upscale establishments and charities. 

The Vintage Rush: What are some of your hobbies?  I'm assuming Art, who are some of your influences, favorite artists?
Frank Bachurski:  Art, socializing, music, marketing and entertainment are some of my hobbies and interests. I just bought a new house so I guess design is playing a huge part there as well.  I don't really have a "favorite artist" per say.  I used to be very into graffiti and street art, so I guess a lot of my artistic interest comes from that culture, along with the mainstream design in pop culture. 

The Vintage Rush: What is your favorite way to drink Clique Vodka?  (If you'll remember, Noah Cohen was asked the same question.)
Frank Bachurski: I would have to say my favorite way to drink Clique Vodka would have to depend on what time of the night it is.  If we are just starting out for an after dinner cocktail at a restaurant, then it would most likely be a simple Clique & Sprite.  But if you catch me at 1:30 am at a Faded Industry Eventgoing all out with a bunch of friends, you will most likely see me pouring shots in everyone's mouth straight from the bottle.  Including my own. 

The Vintage Rush:  Inspiring words?
Frank Bachurski: Inspiring words would probably be to trust your intuition and pursue your goals if that is really what will make you happy.  BUT, if you decide to do something that is a risk, which most things are if you make your own path, make sure you do it 110% beacause things get tough, and when they do, the only way to succeed in what you're trying to accomplishis to push forward and beat the obstacle that is in your way.  If you are doing anything worthwhile, you will meet oppostition, and when you do, embrace it and conquer it. 

The Vintage Rush: Favorite Restaurant in Pittsburgh?
Frank Bachurski:  I LOVE good food, so this is tough.  I have a favorite restaurant for every kind of food.  But lately, I have been finding myself at the Cheesecake Factory a lot, oddly enough, just because I am trying to sample everything they have out of their ridiculously large menu. 

The Vintage RushWhat do you always make time for, no matter what?
Frank Bachurski:  I always have time for my family, no matter what.  I get so caught up in my business that sometimes it slips my mind, but I'm very good at reminding myself where I come from and who is most important. 

The Vintage Rush: How do you feel the internet and social networking has influenced Faded Industry?
Frank Bachurski: I feel that internet and social networking has influenced Faded Industry in the same way that it has influenced the entire world, for the most part.  It is something that was almost non-existent when I was in middle school and now it is literally a part of everyone.  It has opened the doors to endless opportunities to reach people all over the world and expose them to everything a company like ours has to offer.  It has grown so fast that I think even now people my age couldn't imagine a life without it.  It is quite a consuming feature for our business. 

The Vintage Rush: What exactly is Faded Industry Entertainment?
Frank Bachurski: I guess that Faded Industry is really defined by what we do. It now symbolizes the driving force behind Pittsburgh's nightlife and promotions game. We have our hands in almost everything that is entertainment based in this city, and we are definitely expanding to other regions as well, being that we ourselves take our business with us when we travel all over the country throughout the year. It is a group of individuals that started our just having fun and inviting people to join us, and in doing so we created a movement of entertainment based culture that anyone is free to take part in. It is the company in Pittsburgh that has perfected the mixture of business with pleasure for young adults.

The Vintage Rush: What are some of the benefits of merging with Premier Innovations Group?
Frank Bachurski:  When Faded Industry Entertainment merged with Premier Innovations Group it was the birth of taking Faded Industry from an event coordinating & promotions company, to a worldwide Marketing & Branding firm. We now have the avenue in the Spirits Industry to incorporate what we do at Faded Industry Entertainment in a nationwide mainstream scale. It was the birth of a monster, and the creation of the strongest team of people that i have ever had the privilege of being a part of.


The Vintage Rush:What have been some of the major differences in your job since the launch of Clique Vodka? Frank Bachurski: Since the launch of Clique Vodka there is almost a sense of working toward the larger picture. There is a lot of focus on taking the brand worldwide and that is no small feat. Everything is done on a larger scale now, and I personally spend a lot more time dealing with larger clients and sealing deals that will stand to benefit our company's future as opposed to having a vision that is all about the "now".


The Vintage Rush: Do you like to cook? If you were in a jam, what meal could you make?
Frank Bachurski: Haha, I don't do much cooking. As I stated I like to be on the go a lot, which makes for a lot of eating out. Which I have no complaints about because I like trying new things. Yet nothing quite beats a home cooked meal by mi ma!


The Vintage Rush:  Who has been the most influential person in your life?
Frank Bachurski: My mother has been the most influential person in my life. I am close with my family, but my mother and I have the kind of relationship where I can share anything with her.  No problem too big or too small, she is always there to take care of business.  She made me who I am today, along with the rest of my family. And of course, I surround my self with some of the best friends and business associates that you could ask for!


The Vintage Rush: What is one random, crazy fact about yourself?
Frank Bachurski: I have had quite an interesting 26 years. I have done a lot in my life, and tried a lot of different things. I am someone who will never say "I wish I would have". That being said, if you want to know anything REALLY juicy, we are going to have to talk "off the record".  I've got a story or two...

The Vintage Rush: Favorite quality in a woman?
Frank Bachurski: I would absolutely say that my most sought out quality in a woman would be trust. Trust is everything in a relationship, and I have been on both sides of that fence. You can't really know someone on that level unless you are sure you can trust them. That is the kind of "quality" you are asking about right?

The Vintage Rush: Words you live by?
Frank Bachurski:  I have had many different slogans to live by in my life. Always seems to be some big transition in my life taking place to get me to the next step up. So I don't know that I have my "words to live by" quite yet. When I figure out a line that sums up the whole remarkably insane experience, I'll trademark it and let you know!
 
The Vintage Rush: How many times a day do you check your Facebook?
Frank Bachurski: I regret to say, I check my facebook WAY too much. I am pretty active on there so something is always going on, whether it be business or personal. I probably checked it 5 times just in this interview alone. This phone never stops making one annoying sound or another! But hey, I cant complain.

The Vintage Rush: Finally, what does Faded Industry have in store for 2011?
Frank Bachurski: For 2011, Faded Industry plans on throwing bigger and better parties & events than ever.  We are going to really be pumping up our annual favorites and coming out with some one of a kind first timers!  We also plan on expanding into other states as our team is growing nationwide, and getting the entire country on board with the Faded Industry movement!
