John Mayer Admits He was "Humiliated" by a Taylor Swift Song
In the latest issue of Rolling Stone, John Mayer is sounding off on a song Taylor Swift wrote about him on her 2010 album Speak Now, titled "Dear John." In the song, Taylor describes her relationship as a painful one, saying that she was "too young to be messed with."
In the interview, Mayer says, "as a songwriter, I think it's kind of cheap songwriting." He goes on to say, "I didn't deserve it. I'm pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do. I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I'd already been dressed down. I mean how would you feel if, at the lowest you've ever been, someone kicked you even lower?"
His point of view sounds almost legitimate, until you consider the fact that she was 19 and he was in his 30's. Dear John, get over it. If you date a teen, expect teen drama.
In case you're wondering, here are some of the lyrics from "Dear John":
Dear John, I see it all now it was wrong/ Don't you think 19's too young to be played with?
Your dark twisted games when I loved you so/ I should've known
You're an expert at sorry and keeping lines blurry/ Never impressed me by acing your tests
All the girls that you've run dry have tired, lifeless eyes/'Cause you've burned them out
But I took your matches before fire could catch me/So don't look now
I'm shining like fireworks over/ Your sad, empty town
