New York City Hosting "The Little Black Jacket: Chanel's Classic Revisited" Photography Exhibit

Joan Smalls
Chanel is holding a week long exhibit in New York City titled "The Little Black Jacket: Chanel's Classic Revisited". The exhibit contains photographs taken by Karl Lagerfeld of celebs working the classic wardrobe staple (Chanel's tweed black jacket which first came out in 1954) in different ways, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Kanye West, Anna Wintour, Yoko Ono, and Tilda Swinton. The images are from the book, with the same name, The Little Black Jacket: Chanel's Classic Revisited, by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld (the former French Vogue Editor and author of Irreverent), which is set to be released in August. The traveling photography exhibit will stop in New York City for one week, beginning Friday, June 8, 2012 and will be open each day from 12pm to 7pm.

In an interview with Gotham Magazine, Lagerfeld said that "every designer dreams of designing the Chanel jacket. It's up there with jeans or the T-shirt; it's gender-neutral.  That is to say, it can be womenswear or menswear." He went on to say that the "eternal can only last if it stays up-to-date [and for] this reason, the jacket is eternal."  The book and exhibit contain 113 images of celebrities wearing the black tweed jacket in different ways.  The book will run for $98, upon release.
