Fifty Shades Darker: Your Ultimate Nail Guide For Fall 2012

Harper's Bazaar featured these nails recently and we LOVE the new spin on the french manicure!
When you think about Fall nail polish, you normally think: DARKER COLORS, right? This Fall, we are seeing a lot of the usual shades like dark purple, gold, navy (which is actually my lucky color), and any darker shade of red, but we are also seeing a few different shades. For instance, we are seeing a lot of military colors, a lot of gold, a lot of burgundy, white nails, and even a new spin on the french manicure. Additionally, textured nails are very in this season.

The french manicure has literally been overdone SO much that it immediately screams, "I want you to think I have money because I can afford some french tips" or "I want to be in Playboy." However, what we are seeing this fall is a breath of fresh air: the tips are painted with an "it" color, like navy or dark green (and it is all painted on your actual nail, no acrylic nail required.) Finally, an updated look!

Finally, we are seeing reds and nudes. Classic nail polish never goes out of style and live through every season, but it is trending right now.  Expect to see a lot of nudes, everything from bright red to burgundy to vampy red, to military greens and navy blue.  It's time to put away your pinks, purples, and yellows girls, and get fifty shades darker for Fall! Check out what a few of your favorite brands are offering this Fall below.

What is not pictured below that is making waves: Dior's "crocodile"(dubbed by Vogue) crackle nail polish in green!

Chanel Fall colors include Frenzy, Suspicious, and Vertigo

Tom Ford offers a "provocative" spin on Fall colors, with Dominatrix and Matrix

Butter London (our absolute favorite nail polish) offers sparkly darker shades in their Fall/Winter 2012 Collection including: Lovely Jubbly, Trustafarian, Gobsmacked, Shag, and Dodgy Barnatt
Estee Lauder serves up elegant gold tones including: Nouveau Riche, Chaos, Smashed, Explosif, and Fiery Hot

Essie actually offers two Fall collections, but this one we liked better, and it's called, Stylenomics. Essie is a GREAT brand because the polish immediately lies flat once you apply it and after two coats, you literally have a flawless "salon-like" finish.

True Blood Wraps Up Season 5, Were You Impressed?

by Sarah

Okay, let's talk about the season finale of True Blood. There were quite a few reasons why the finale was disappointing, but we'll start with the usual, which is Sookie and Bill's tragic love tale.  "I know Bill. Starting a civil war between vampires and humans: that's not who [Bill] is", Sookie says innocently while driving with Jason.  Later on in the episode, Sookie finds out that there is a lot that she doesn't know about Bill Compton. For instance, he is the new vampire god who's mission is to eat all human beings for breakfast? We all saw him progressively become evil while hanging with Russel and the Authority, but she didn't, as they spent the entire season apart.  Here are a couple of other issues that we must address of our beloved show's disappointing finale.  (We must note that even though it wasn't what we were expecting, we're all sad it won't be on again until next Summer.)

1. What is up with Sookie this season? This whole season, Sookie's been a little bit off.  Maybe it's because she has seen too much blood for one lifetime or maybe it was because Anna Paquin was pregnant and the writers were spending too much time trying to hide her belly in every scene.  Either way, she definitely didn't "bring it" this season.  We normally get a little more emotion out of Sookie, at least during a season finale.

2. About the fairies... Other than Sookie's lack of interest in her action-packed life, wee learned that fairies give birth to litters, not single babies, with ease.  Andy Bellefleur's fairy mistress (who he cheated on Holly with) delivers four babies and leaves them in Andy's care. Meanwhile, Holly is the one who delivers all four babies, not at all pleased with the situation.

3. About the shifters... Sam Merlotte flies into the mouth of a crazed vampire (as a fly) and shifts back into human form, while still in her mouth, causing her to explode.  Sam, Luna, and Emma are all still stuck in the Authority Building when the show ends, so we aren't sure what happened with them. We do know that Luna shifted from Steve Newlin to herself (and puked up blood) on national television and spilled the beans about how evil vampires are.

4. About the vampires. Bill Compton tricks Salome into drinking all of "Lilith's blood" by telling her that Lillith came to him and told him that she chose Salome to be her prodigy.  After she chugs the vessel of blood down, Bill gives her a devlish eye.  When the blood makes her ill, Bill stands over her explaining that he laced it with silver because he is the one who Lilith chose, revealing that he has kept the actual blood of Lilith in a small vile for himself. Then, he stakes her.  Right before he does, though, Salome says that "Lilith chose correctly."

Sookie and Eric try to come to Bill's rescue only to find him confidently against humanity.  He drinks the blood and turns into a pool of blood on the floor.  (Editor's Note: Was anyone else momentarily happy he was finally off of the show?) To our dismay, however, he rises out of the blood and does a creepy Lilith demon hiss.  Sigh, his corrupted character will probably never die.

Is Bill the new Lilith (or, eh, the "son of god")? Was Lilith even real? She plotted all of the chancellors against each other until all but one died. The only two who escaped were Eric and Nora, who went rogue after seeing their maker tell them Lilith was a "god of destruction."

5. About the werewolves... Alcide takes over his pack after he learns JD has been force feeding V to all of the wolves.  Does anyone remember anything about the wolves this season? There were many storylines that faded quickly (like the "Iraqi ghost lady") and quite frankly, what the wolfpack was up to was at the bottom of our long list.

6. About Warlow... And, in true True Blood nature, we never find out who Warlow is.  The only clue that we get is in a bonus scene, which previews the next season. Jason and Nora are on the roof of the Authority building and he says, "I'm coming for you, Warlow." Nora, who is behind him, stops and asks, "Warlow, what do you know about Warlow?", as though she knows all about him.

Urban Active Fitness Presents: "Muscles Confused? I'm Confused!"

by Josh Bowen of Urban Active Fitness

P90X
I’m opinionated; I get it from my mother, who is never short on giving you a piece of her mind. This blog is my opinion, one in which I am entitled too and one that could be argued. However, I believe I am correct because of my strong anatomy and physiology background. “Get to it JB!” Ok, Ok. This is my public takedown of P90X and its creative marketing, unique workouts and apparent body transformations. First off, those transformations did not happen with 90X alone, period. Those people had to eat a clean diet and work their rear ends off. I hate that these marketing conglomerates make a sales pitch on an infomercial giving the American public the idea that all you have to do is follow the workouts for 90 days and you will be ripped out of your mind. Ain’t going to happen people! Ok, I got that off my chest.
Now any personal trainer, fitness guru or any person with an anatomy background can tell you, there is no such thing as “muscle confusion.” I know that is the sales pitch that is supposed to separate P90x from everything else and what is supposed to change your body faster than anything else ever created. However, muscles do not get confused they are too smart to get confused. Quite frankly, your muscles are so smart they often time “out smart” the human brain. Muscles do not get confused they adapt, there is a difference. In anatomy, muscles have the job of flexing and extending (and several other movements) and applying force or resisting force. They become tired when overworked and rejuvenated when provided with proper rest. See muscles do not get confused they adapt. They adapt to the resistance placed upon them by becoming sore, and provided proper nutrition and rest will grow, adapt and become stronger. Confusion is for the un-smart or the easily distracted, not for your muscles, they are the geniuses designed to frustrate their owners. Bodybuilders have been on a quest to out-smart their muscles for hundreds of years but the muscles always win. So regardless of what you think about P90x and regardless of how much results you have had with 90x there are two underlining lies in their over promotion of their product; body transformation does not happen without proper nutrition and muscle confusion is a fallacy predicated by our media darlings trying to sell you something they cannot back up.
“OK. Dude what are your opinions of home based workouts?” So I think I got my point across on the “muscle confusion” but home based workouts are an animal all to themselves. Let me ask a question, “How many people out there have bought a treadmill or piece of exercise equipment and all it is used for now is a coat rack or just collects dust?” Probably alot of us, including myself. The problem in home based workouts is people can tend to brush it off and think they can do it later and then later comes and they skip it and go at it tomorrow. Tomorrow comes and its a vicous cycle. By all means, there is nothing wrong with working out at home and nothing wrong with P90X or Insanity or any other home based workout program. The problem lies in you don’t have to go somewhere to workout. You can argue you can do the same thing with going to a gym, put it off until tomorrow comes. True, but if you get to the gym chances are you will at least attempt to get your workout in. But all things being equal, any exercise is better than zero exercise. So if P90X is what helps you get results, then by all means keep it up! Just remember your muscles are not confused they are adapting (big difference)! I am here to educate and inform and give you my opinion (you can take it or leave it :) )

Yours in fitness,
JB

TV Buzz: 'Pretty Little Liars' Gearing Up To Reveal Who "A" Is In Season Finale

I have a few guilty obsessions right now: chocolate coconut coffee, pinning like a crazy woman, and Pretty Little Liars. I just love those little liars (and their sense of fashion!) There are only two episodes left in Season 3 and it is getting so intense that I had to share with all of you my burning desire to know WHO "A" IS! It is much more tricky this season to even guess who "A" is.  With Mona, you sort of already suspected her, only because she was always lurking around in the background.  With the new "A", it is harder to figure out, especially after last night's episode, which proved that neither Jenna, Noel Kahn or Garrett killed Maya.

Noel sent Spencer surveillance footage of the night Maya was killed (which shows Maya being grabbed by someone who was just out of the camera's view) after he caught her sorting through his locker in the boys' locker room during football practice. The video shows Maya being grabbed by this unknown person immediately after Jenna and Noel go into his cabin, proving that they were inside while Maya was attacked.  However, we don't actually know if he sent this or not since it was sent from a blocked email address, as all communications always are. Aside from the surveillance footage, one of the biggest clues that we got from last night's episode, "What Lies Beneath" was a knife that Maya had in her bag. (We found out that Maya never left Rosewood, instead stayed in a hidden bedroom of Noel Kahn's family cabin). The knife had the initials "LJ" carved into it.  WHAT? No one has these initials on the show.

It's being hinted that "A" is someone close to the girls with the tagline, "BetrAyel", which leads you to rule out Jenna & Noel anyway, because those two were never close with the liars.  We can only guess that it is one of the boyfriends, who we know well already, like Ezra (who has been acting shady as of late with the whole "I could have/might still have a child out there somewhere" thing) or Wren (who has been a strange background character from the beginning that always pops back into the storyline.) Wren is a great (but rather boring) candidate for "A" because he works with Mona, as her doctor, at Radley. Lastly, Caleb, who even went to visit Mona at Radley.

Another easy suspect is Paige, who has also been around since Season 1.  In this episode, Paige gets violent when she catches Emily kissing Nate, Maya's cousin (who is a...boy) and beats up a trashcan (which might lead you to point the "A" finger at her because she reveals that she can be a violent person.) Plus, in the spoiler of the next episode, you see that Paige knew and had a major feud with Ali before she died.  As of right now, Paige is the biggest suspect, but you never know, maybe the writers are pointing the finger at her to keep you from suspecting someone even closer to the girls (like Ali). Hmmm.

In the books, you find out that A is Ali (and the girls never knew Ali, they knew her twin sister, who pretended to be her to avoid going to Radley Sanitoriam-the same that Mona is in.) However, the television series hasn't really mentioned a lot of that storyline, except of course, a couple of brief times.  For instance, when Hanna and Ali are babysitting and Ali tells a story to the little boy about a little girl that murders her twin sister. According to WetPaint, there was a photo hanging on the wall in Ali's bedroom of Jason and the two twins, Ali & Courtney.

Personally, I love this theory and I really want Ali to reveal herself as "A" in the next two episodes. I have always wanted Spencer to be part of the "A-Team" because she is the smartest one of the liars and she was the one who went looking for Ali the night she disappeared and she is the one who went off with Mona, ultimately finding out that she was "A" in the Season 2 finale.

Wetpaint also leaked from photos from the Finale (see them here) which shows Emily & Paige at a crime scene. Emily looks the most distraught out of all of the liars, which definitely suggests that perhaps Paige is "A." But, I still hope it's Ali.

Who do you think "A" is? Comment below with your theories!

Rob Pattinson Indulges In "Breakup Ice Cream" with Jon Stewart on 'The Daily Show'

Rob Pattinson stopped by The Daily Show yesterday before attending the premiere of Cosmopolis (which just premiered at the 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival) at the Modern Museum of Art. Jon Stewart gave the actor some Ben & Jerry's and said, "Now were just a couple of gals... Tell me everything!"

Rob didn't share too much about his breakup with Kristen Stewart, but did agree with the generic statement that breaking up "feels like the end of the world". He did say that his only real problem is "not having a publicist" to handle everything.  Even though he couldn't escape being drilled about the now infamous breakup (after girlfriend & Twilight costar Kristen Stewart was caught cheating by the paparazzi), he managed to still be charming and witty.  He even said he couldn't eat too much of the ice cream because he wouldn't be able to fit into his Spanx afterward!

Penelope Cruz Looks Gorgeous in the September Issue of W

by Sarah
Penelope Cruz covers the September 2012 issue of W Magazine wearing a turtleneck and a chunky statement necklace.  Inside, she poses for a series of unique black and white photographs taken by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott. She gives an interesting interview about the challenges of acting in a foreign language.

"There is a part of your brain that has to stop when you're acting. You have to be in the moment and dare to fly. Words can't be on your mind.  And yet, when you are working in a foreign language, you have to be thinking about the words every single second. It's difficult, but I'm not complaining. It's just the way it is."

While other magazines like Vogue are heavy contenders when it comes to who has the best September issue of 2012, W brings a lot to the table.  Penelope is simply gorgeous and while the cover looks a little outdated, the inside photographs are very artistic!

...we love the September issues!

Self Improvement: Always Use The Law of Attraction To Your Advantage

by Sarah

Miracles occur naturally. The only time they stop is whenever we create a blockage. Miracles can be small or even just a shift in how you are perceiving your life. Many miracles happen every day to everyone, but sometimes, we miss them. So often, we get in our own way by thinking we are less than we really are. Or, we forget to live in the present moment by worrying about the future or hanging on to something terrible that happened in the past. Missing out on miracles and happiness is no one's fault but your own. There is no room for being a victim or having a thousand excuses as to why you aren't living a great life. You might be able to lie to other people or play the part of a victim with other people, but when it comes down to it, you can't lie to God and you can't lie to the universe.

However, simply being alive means that we are entitled to a miraculous life full of happiness and blessings. Everything you "dream" of is within reach. You only have to believe that you deserve it and are going to get it. You need to stay in the present to see how many amazing things are happening for you every minute.  Otherwise, you might not even see some of the things that are happening in your life, which is what can happen if you get too caught up in thinking you are a victim or unworthy of life.  Life is for everyone and so is happiness. It isn't for select people.

One of the ways that we can miss out on many opportunities and even happiness itself is by embracing negative thoughts. Time and time again, I tell people that if negative thoughts and a negative attitude can do a ton of damage to your life, a positive attitude can affect your life with the same amount of intensity in a good way. One of the best ways to experience more miracles (and more happiness) is to simply use the Law Of Attraction. Attract good things & good people by being a happy person yourself! Be the person you think you will become when you acquire everything you want.  If you sit around and feel sorry for yourself, that is what you are attracting.  If you play the part of having a sad, sorry life, that is what you are attracting.  If you shift these thoughts, you can have a great life.  But, it all comes back to what you are giving to the universe.  Are you a loving person? Are you a happy person who can find happiness in small things? Do you express gratitude often? Etc.

1. Write down a list of things you want or make a visual board with magazine clippings/drawings. Seeing things with your eyes is different than just thinking about them. Visualizing helps to get the show on the road. If you can see it, it looks much more manageable. Don't be scared to be bold.  If you want money, admit it to yourself. If you want a baby, admit that to yourself.  If you hold back, you can bet that the universe will hold back, too.

2. Don't attach any negative thinking to things you want to come into your life. Only apply warm, positive thoughts. This is truly the law of attraction. If you apply fear to something you want, the universe is going to give you something scary.  You will have a fearful time with this new venture, because you hype yourself up to be scared. If you think it will come easily, chances are, it will come easily.

3. Believe you already have it. You probably have a mental idea of who you will become once you get something you want (perhaps a baby, a husband, or a job).  You probably imagine yourself being really happy and confident once you get this thing you don't have.  Be that person you see in your head, even without what you want.  Attract this thing you want by being the person who is supposed to have it.

4. Work hard for things you know you'll get. We're all equipped with intuition.  Certain things are never going to work out in life, so don't go after those things or worry about them.  Save your energy for positive pursuits.

5. Express gratitude when you get it. Embrace gratitude always. Gratitude attracts more gratitude. If you are thankful for something in your life every day, you are living a satisfied life.  When you say thanks, you are welcoming more of everything to come into your life.  If you act like you didn't get anything, when you got a great opportunity, you are going to attract more and more of that feeling; that feeling of "Oh, I missed out."

Jennifer Aniston & Justin Theroux Are Engaged!

It has been confirmed that Jennifer Aniston and boyfriend of 18 months, Justin Theroux are engaged! Justin proposed to his Wanderlust co-star on his 41st birthday, proving tabloid rumors that the couple was on the rocks to be very wrong. Justin's rep says that when Jen said 'yes', he received an "extraordinary gift for his birthday." Talk about sweet! This is Jen's second marriage (her first was an infamous relationship with Brad Pitt, who is also engaged this year to Angelina Jolie) and Justin's first marriage. Congrats to Justin & Jennifer! We can't wait to see the wedding ring/dress!

There is a very important question at hand, however. Which wedding are you more excited for- Jen & Justin OR Brad & Angie (if they ever actually get married)?

Spice Girls Perform At The Closing Ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics

Even though it was an action-packed event, raise your hand if the only reason you tuned in to the Closing Ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics was to see the Spice Girls perform! From Annie Lennox crawling around on a boat to Russel Brand singing a lullaby, to Kate Middleton smirking at Prince Harry when he was being introduced as "his royal heiness", we have to admit that the best part of the night was getting to see the Spice Girls reunite to sing two of their hit songs, "Wannabe" and "Spice Up Your Life." Victoria, Geri, Emma, Mel C., & Mel C might have changed over the years (acquiring husbands, kids, and new work endeavors) but they all came back and rocked the stage like old times.

Prince Harry and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge look on during the Closing Ceremony on August 12, 2012 in London, England.

You tell us, what was your favorite part of the Closing Ceremony? It was quite a night!

Banana Republic Designs New Uniforms For Virgin America

by Sarah

Talk about high fashion...

Banana Republic recently designed a line of functional sportswear for Virgin America's flight attendants, pilots, and even ticket agents.  While news of this fashionable alliance has been around for a month, the employees didn't actually get to start wearing their new uniforms until August 8, which was Virgin America's 5 year anniversary.

Flight attendants & pilots, at one point in time, were stylish figures in society (think Pan Am.) However, over the years, their uniforms went from fab to drab. So, we are particularly excited to see fashion making its way up into the sky again.

"Function and fashion were the two main driving forces of the project.  In each part of the design process we had to think back to who would be wearing the uniforms, the long hours of wear, activity of walking, sitting, reaching in overhead bins, etc," said Simon Kneen, the Design & Creative Director for Banana Republic.

Alongside the stylish new uniforms of the staff, a collection of Banana Republic items will be available to travelers, while flying, on the Virgin America Red's in flight entertainment system, including sunglasses, tote bags, and even trench coats.

Hmm, looks like we will have to book a flight (to somewhere...exotic) to see what all of the hype is about!

The Stylish & Wise Girl's Guide to Healthy Snacking

by Sarah

According to Fitness Magazine, 76% of us grab anything in sight when we get an intense craving between meals.  Less than 25% of us wait until we can get to something healthy! The important thing with snacking is to plan ahead! Pack plenty of healthy snacks for work, school, roadtrips, or any occasion where you will be in between meals. One of the ways that our diets can get off track is when we either give in to cravings the wrong way (we will discuss ways to treat cravings without using up too many calories later) or find ourselves insanely hungry (at work or on the road) and see the convenience of a candy bar or fast food. We all fall into these situations.  But, here are a few tips to healthy snacking.

Be prepared- One of the perks of being insanely hungry is that you will eat anything, so this could be a good time to get chore-like foods that are chock-full of nutrients into your body. Think slices of raw red peppers, a handful of baby carrots, or apples. If you have food with you when you get that insane food craving (say, at 11am), you won't be forced to hit up a vending machine.

Get more bang for your buck- Snacks should be 150-200 calories.  Think about what is going to hold you over until your next meal.  If you give into buying a Twix bar or a bag of chips, not only are you going to have to work that off at the gym, but you are going to hungry for something else right after you finish.  Foods that are rich in healthy fats, protein, and fiber will hold you over. Lately, I've been eating half of an avocado when I get really hungry and it fills me up more than any other fruit/veggie around.  (Plus, avocados fight/prevent cancer.) Avocados might contain a lot of [healthy] fats, but at least I know that this food is healing my body and going to make me less hungry for a longer period of time.

See if the healthy route will work before trying anything else- Drink a glass of water and eat a piece of fruit and see if you still have the urge to pig out on chocolate.  Sweet fruits like oranges or berries can actually eliminate sweet cravings. (Drizzling local honey onto fruit is another great way to satisfy a craving for something sweet, like pictured above.) Also, make sure that you are eating balanced meals and drinking enough water every day to ensure that your snacking isn't out of control.  (TIP: Take your weight and divide it by two to find out exactly how many ounces of water your body needs each day.) When you are hydrated and properly nourished, you will find that healthy snacks hold you over and satisfy you better.  Snacks are not meant to be meals, ever. They are meant to hold you over until your next balanced meal.

Things to avoid- Never, EVER, replace a snack (or a meal) with a hearty beverage like a Frappuccino (especially loaded up with whipped cream) or a  fast food smoothie.  Drinks can be deceptive in that they can contain more calories than giant burgers or pizzas, but we don't think of them as food, so we never put two and two together.  Frapps and fast food smoothies (which can contain ice cream!) can contain up to 1,000 calories (which is more than half of your TOTAL daily calorie intake!!)

Also, be cautious of anything that comes in a plastic package, like candybars, cookies, or potato chips.  All of these things are nothing but empty calories and will not stop your hunger. Be cautious of certain protein bars, as well, because not all of them are created equal.  Look for low-calorie bars that contain a lot of fiber, as well as protein.

Healthy snacking ideas- Greek yogurt (my favorite is Dannon Oikos' Key Lime flavor or Chobani's Pomegranate flavor), ThinkThin Fruit & Nut Granola Bars (my current favorite health bar), apples (there is nothing more convenient than an apple), a handful of baby carrots (add hummus if you aren't sure you can feel full from carrots alone), whole wheat toast with strawberries and peanut butter (or a Laughing Cow serving of cheese), etc.  One of my favorite healthy snacks is a whole wheat wrap with almond butter and slices of bananas.

If you absolutely need to eat chocolate (we all get to that point, whether it be hormones or a bad day), just eat a modified version.  Or, go to town and then hit the gym.  Depriving yourself makes things worse, just remember to splurge occasionally, not every day.

Rocker chick/style icon Gwen Stefani is on the cover of the September "Fashion Issue" of Harper's Bazaar. Inside, she spills on balancing fame with motherhood, how she stays thin, and why she wears makeup at home. We can't think of a better person to cover their fashion issue!

On keeping her figure: "I hate talking about my body [all the time]; it's ridiculous," she says, referring to the number of times someone has asked how to get her six-pack abs. "There is no secret: you just have to eat healthy, work out, and torture yourself!"

On her life as a mother: " It's superfun being a mom, but it's hard, too. Finding that balance between work and family is hardest thing I've ever done- by far."

On makeup: "I've always been the girl who loves to dress up. I already put my makeup on twice today: I put it on to take my kid to school, and then I went home, washed my face, and put it on again to have lunch with you." She even wears it at home because "I like to make my husband like me more," she says, laughing, "and he likes it when I'm wearing makeup."

Rachel Zoe Debuts Jewelry Line, Available Through Neiman Marcus

by Sarah
Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe debuted her jewelry collection on Tuesday, July 31, which is nothing short of "to die for." Editor's Note: Can't you just picture Rachel Zoe (with her oversized sunglasses on) saying "Oh.My.God.I.Die." without ever changing the tone of her voice? That's exactly how this jewelry makes us feel.

The collection, which is available exclusively through Neiman Marcus, will range from $195 to $650 in price. Zoe says her collection was inspired by Art Deco and 1960's/1970's glam (her "favorite things".) What do you think of her jewelry collection? We think it's amazing.

Theater Review: The Addams Family Musical

by Sarah Davis

Pittsburgh, PA- As part of a national tour, The Addams Family Musical opened last night in Pittsburgh at the Benedum Center and will play until August 12, 2012. While the plot was rather predictable, the nostalgia factor of the famed Addams Family, based off of the original cartoon by Charles Addams (which inspired the iconic 1960's television series and a few motion pictures) wooed the audience.  So much so, that the audience snapped their fingers throughout the show, right alongside with the cast, without any cue and laughed uncontrollably.

In the musical, the odd and death-obsessed Wednesday Addams (Cortney Wolfson) has found love with a boy named Lucas Beineke (Brian Justin Crum), who is a tourist from Ohio.  The musical finds Wednesday attempting to plan a dinner for Lucas' parents, Mal and Alice, to meet her infamous family; a dinner which she hopes can be "normal." As you can imagine, the dinner is anything less than normal.

The cast is carried by Gomez (Douglas Sills), Morticia (Sara Gettelfinger) and Uncle Fester (Blake Hammond). Uncle Fester and Gomez are the the only two who deliver "heart" to the story, with Uncle Fester acting partly as a narrator. Morticia delivers as much heart and comedic relief as she can, without straying too much from her dry nature, but is borderline whiny and self-obsessed, almost to the point of being unnoticeable. Fester, on the other hand, develops an unconventional love affair with the Moon (when he isn't narrating) and surprisingly enough, it is the only relationship that you truly root for. Gomez and Morticia argue when Gomez keeps a secret for Wednesday during dinner and Wednesday fights with Lucas for not being "crazy enough", but both fights are painfully predictable. Even so, the cast is hilarious and witty as ever.  Gomez even makes a local reference by using a "Pittsburghese" accent unexpectedly, which had the audience laughing so hard that even Douglas Sills couldn't refrain from laughing on stage.

All in all, the show was full of life (or, eh, death) with carefully odd choreography, ghoulish lighting, and wonderful set designs.  For tickets, please visit The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust's website.
