Trusting God's Timing, Not Your Own

by Sarah

Do you ever feel ready to travel but you just can't
seem to get going?
Do you ever feel completely ready for a new chapter of your life to begin, or even ready for something smaller to happen, but you just can't get things rolling? It can not only frustrating, but confusing because we think we've done everything we need to do to be ready, but the Universe doesn't give over what we want (marriage, babies, new jobs, etc.)

In Marianne Williamson’s book, The Age of Miracles, she talks about ripening. In life, we want many things. We want to get married.  We want to have a baby.  We want to get a better job.  We want a new car.  And, for some reason, we usually don’t get what we want...right away.  Right? Sometimes we even experience horrible failure trying to get what we want.  So much failure that it seems unfair because we get really unhappy in our pursuits to achieve what we want.

Then, one day later on down the road, you get it and you realize it didn’t happen according to your timeline but it did happen. Ripening means that we have to ripen like fruit before we are ready for certain things.  You might think you’re ready right now, but there is something else you have to learn before the Universe will let you have it.  That’s why trust is so important.

Just because things aren’t happening right away, don’t get discouraged.  You are on the track to manifesting your dreams, but there are things you need to see, people you need to meet, failures you need to make, tears you need to cry, and pain you need to feel before you are truly ready for what you know you want.  This is where patience and trust come into living a happy, satisfied life.
I just love the ripening metaphor. It really shows that manifesting doesn't mean snapping your fingers and getting what you want, as though you just met a genie and you're using up your wishes. Things don't always go your way in life and you're bound to get beat up a little, but it doesn't mean good things aren't coming your way. If you trust that the Universe has your back, even in times that it really feels like the Universe must like to watch you suffer, you'll find that it does. I know in my own life, nothing has happened according to my own plans, but I love where I'm at. I know what I want in life, but I've also learned to go with the flow and roll with the punches because life is rocky but when it's challenging, the good stuff is happening.

So, it’s not only important to remember ripening when you want something, but when you’re struggling.  When you’re going through a rough time in life, you might just be preparing for something grander that is coming your way.  Something that requires you to have learned a little more before you get your hands on it. If you experience failure, it doesn't mean you're failing.
